About Floyd Gompf

Miami University of Ohio - BFA - Design

Kansas State University - MA - Sculpture/Ceramics

Art Institute of Chicago - Ceramics

Floyd participated with the A.C.E. (American Craft Enterprise) Craft shows for 10 years showing his ceramics. "Those shows were great at the time. But, I decided the production line of work wasn't the direction I wanted to move forward on.  So I went out on my own and experimented with making furniture from found materials. I had no training or experience in woodworking. I was forced to find my own building techniques. Most of my forms were derived from my former ceramic and sculptural ideas. I started collecting materials from alleyways in Chicago, architectural salvage stores & flee markets. I especially like wood that was painted and distressed - wood with a sense of history or story behind it."

Mr. Gompf maintains a studio in Lakeside, MI. and shows locally in the Southwest Michigan area including, Red Arrow Gallery in Harbert, Good Goods Gallery in Saugatuck, Lovell and Whyte in Lakeside. His work can also be seen at Susan Fredman Design in Chicago and Lill St. Gallery in Chicago.

Floyd's studio is open for visitation.
